Ever since I can remember, I have been writing. They didn’t have to be in depth or mean something, but they were fun. It was a creative outlet for me.
The first book I remember writing was in 2nd grade. My teacher was a creative muse and really inspired me to embrace learning through creativity. She used to sing us songs about everything; many of which I still remember to this day. We had to write a story from a story, taking an already published book and making it our own. I forget the name of the book I chose, but my story was about a spider, a fly, and a beetle who were deciding what they wanted to be for Halloween. From there, I created a comic book series called Bedder and Roller about a bedbug and his pet pill bug (or roly poly as I called them) and their everyday adventures. I wish I still had those pages of panels, I need to ask my mom if they are still hiding away somewhere…
Since then, it’s been part of my life.
This story I am creating here was just another spark that became something more. My husband, then boyfriend, bought me a book about Dragons. At this point in my life, the world of fantasy was ingrained into my soul. I grew up watching films like The Dark Crystal, The Last Unicorn, Beauty and the Beast & other fantastic tales, which influenced me and my writing.
Upon reading this book, I came across a section about how female dragons were so scarce that many dragons had human servants to serve them. The best of these servants were considered Favorites, and they became the dragons most precious treasure. They were pampered, cared for and loved by these women who they doted on.
I thought to myself, how do dragons find these women? Did they go willingly or are they taken? Does love play a factor in this odd human/dragon relationship?
I took it upon myself to start writing a story about just that; a woman who falls in love with a dragon and leaves everything behind to be with him. From this tale, sparked something inside me. The story was not done. There had to be more to tell. So I kept writing. That writing turned into a 3 book series, diving deep into this world I created.
It’s crazy how just a few words can spark something inside you. Now I am ready to take the next step and share the kingdom of my creativity. I hope you will follow me on my journey as I make this dream a reality.
